Lost Woods

Reunited

"So is Harbinger gonna work anymore?"

I took the smooth metal rod from Quantum. It felt slick in my left hand. And heavy. I nodded.

His eyes moved to my right stub, pink skin giving way tight grafts a few inches past my elbow. "I thought it had something to do with your hand or that green glove."

"I never talked about it. Everyone knew the guys that had taken it from me over the years were never able to spark it." I turned the metal staff upright and let it slowly slide down in my grasp. The room darkened as lines of green started to dance on my hand and along the staff. "Apparently Perkins and his research team thought they could figure it out if they had my hand too." I looked Quantum in the eyes, "Thanks for coming for me."

"Sorry I didn't get here sooner," He phantom stroked a non-existent goatee and pointed his chin towards my beard, "looks like you've been here a while."

I tensed my left hand a couple of times around the staff. "Just feels awkward." I stood up and started walking towards the hole in the side of the cell.

Quantum called to my back. "Why can't anyone else make it spark?"

"Maybe they patched me up to be able to ask me that. Though they sure took their sweet time."

Quantum came alongside me as I rounded a corner in the hall, dim emergency lighting flashing. "I should have told you right away, I found your arm. I had W.A.D.E. fly it back to Giffen East. I can ask Dr. Stiles"

I cut the seven foot tall alien off, "Yes. Let's get to your ship."
